Ohio State Buckeyes Start Fall Camp

Ohio State football players reported to fall camp today with their annual check-in at the University Inn near campus. After checking into the hotel the players began attending meetings across the street at the Woody Hayes Facility were they will practice for the next four weeks prior to the their game against Marshall on September 2nd. A couple of players were not with the team today.

When the players checked into their hotel today for fall camp a couple of players were not with the team. Jermil Martin was reported to be transferring earlier this week. There may have been some academic issues with the Cleveland Glenville running back but an official statement reported Martin wanting additional playing time that isn’t available in the OSU backfield this coming season.

Freshman running back Rod Smith was expected to have made the needed grades in summer school to begin camp from what Head Coach Jim Tressel explained throughout the week, but he was not with the team today. Now the expected timeframe for Smith’s arrival is this coming weekend.

Tight End Nic DiLillo also didn’t not report to camp and his name was not found on the 105 man roster that is allowed to attend fall camp. HIs status is currently unknown. He would have been competing for playing time against Jake Stoneburner, Reid Fragel and Spencer Smith this year.

The team has a new outside playing field next to the Woody Hayes Facility called the Harmon Family Football Practice Park were they will be active on Friday for their first of 20 practices. The Buckeyes are returning 9 starters on offensive including starting quarter back Terrelle Pryor. On defense, 6 starters are back with solid performers up-front, including defensive end/tackle Cameron Heyward.
