Terrelle Pryor is Happy With His Spring Football Progress

The starting quarterback for Ohio State is happy with the progress he has made this spring, feels more comfortable in his role for the Buckeyes, and says that he can lead the team, one game at a time, avoiding any obstacles that are in their schedule this season.

After practice recently, Terrelle Pryor was available to the press to discuss his progress this spring and also the progress of some of the players on the offensive side of the ball. The first name to come up was Jake Stoneburber, a sophomore tight end from Central Ohio, who has come of age according to Pryor. Stoneburner is “The Real Deal” according to the Buckeye quarterback. “If there's a linebacker on him, he's going to pass him.” he explained about the speed of the converted wide receiver.

Pryor is also impressed with the play of the quarterbacks that are in camp. “Kenny Guiton is good.” he said. “He's stepped up this spring.” he reported about the red-shirted freshman signal caller who had been rumored to have passed by junior Joe Bauserman on the depth chart. “We have some good quarterbacks.” Pryor added about the overall group.

Discussing his own improvement, he feels he has gained the confidence to throw into tight windows. He also believes that he can stay in the pocket and move without looking at the defensive line, allowing him additional time. He now has the ability to keep his eyes down the field to make a pass to one of his wide receivers, Dane Sanzenbaucher or DeVier Posey. Or even find tight end Jake Stoneburner open in the middle of the field.

When asked about the stretch of last year when he wasn’t allowed to pass often he responded that handing the ball off early in his career was expected as a number of quarterbacks before him, including Troy Smith and Todd Boeckman, were able to pass more as their careers progressed and they earned the respect of he coaches. Overall Pryor feels the team is ready to take one team at a time to avoid an upset like they saw last season against Purdue. “We're going to act like we are not in the rankings.” he noted.
