With a ankle sprain suffered last weekend against Wisconsin, running back and kick returner Jordan Hall is unlikely to play this coming weekend against Indiana. The injury occurred as Hall returned a kick-off 42 yards late in the fourth quarter that resulted in the winning touchdown by the Buckeyes over the Badgers. The injury to Hall leaves the running back depth chart a little less robust but gives Carlos Hyde and Rod Smith some opportunities against a weak running defense.
With Jaamal Berry suspended after an off the field assault charge, Daniel ‘Boom’ Herron will be the starter at tailback with Carlos Hyde as the backup. Hyde hasn’t seen much action since Herron returned from suspension to dominate defenses in two consecutive games. Rod Smith will be third in line and could easily see playing time in the fourth quarter if the Buckeye approach the 27 point spread that Vegas is predicting for the noon game. Smith has had some opportunities at linebacker as of late but still is primarily a running back according to the coaching staff.
The kick return game will be the most affected by the loss of Berry and Hall, with receiver Christ Fields, receiver Corey ‘Philly’ Brown, Boom Herron, and receiver Devin Smith all possible replacements at the position. Fields was the alternative last weekend when Berry didn’t play. Also of note: According to Ohio State officials there are still tickets available in Columbus for the game and can be purchased online or at the basketball arena prior to the game.
