Ohio State Buckeyes Ready for Quarterback Rotation
Ohio State Buckeyes Ready for Quarterback Rotation
After three weeks of fall camp, head coach Luke Fickell trimmed the list of possible starting quarterbacks down to senior Joe Bauserman or freshman Braxton Miller this week. Both quarterbacks have been taking most of the first team snaps as of late after Bauserman was taking most of the snaps early in camp. Everyone is awaiting the Akron game’s 2011 depth-chart to see who is the starting quarterback. But both signal-callers could see action against the Zips.
Other battles that resulted in shared time during the recent past for the Buckeyes include Joe Germaine and Stanley Jackson and Justin Zwick and Troy Smith. Most telling was what coach Fickell said about a quarterback needing to be in front of a packed Ohio Stadium before knowing for sure how they would react. This leads one to believe that Miller is the favorite unless the subdued crowd in the stadium for the Akron game somehow rattles him. The coaching staff likes the athletic ability of the young quarterback which would give them more options out of the backfield. The team could rely heavily on the run game this coming year with a stable of experienced tailbacks and little experience under center and at the wide receiver position.
Sophomore Jamaal Berry should be a major part of the run offense this year but has battled some hamstring issues lately in camp. Jordan Hall, returning started Dan Herron, Carlos Hyde, and Rod Smith fill out the five tailback rotation that features both power and speed.
