Buckeyes add to their 2009 recruiting class

COLUMBUS — Defensive lineman Adam Bellamy became Ohio State University's 17th verbal commitment for the football class of 2009. Bellamy announced his decision on Tuesday, June 10.

The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Bellamy — a senior-to-be at Aurora High School — is rated as the 18th-best prospect in Ohio. He chose OSU over offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Boston College, West Virginia and Kansas.

What began as a weekend of hope turned into a week of celebration for Aurora two-way standout Adam Bellamy.

The future college defensive tackle ended the suspense Tuesday afternoon and issued a verbal commitment to the Ohio State Buckeyes.

It is amazing how much things can change in the course of 48 hours.

On Sunday afternoon, Adam Bellamy was showing his skills to the Ohio State coaching staff while on campus for a summer camp. Although he already held offers from the likes of Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana and Cincinnati, among others, the three-star prospect had his eyes set on earning at least one more offer.

Returning home to Aurora, Bellamy was left puzzling over his own future.

If an offer from the Buckeyes was not forthcoming, it would be time to start exploring other options more closely, while still holding out hope for an OSU offer.

It was Monday afternoon, then, that Bellamy received a message telling him to call OSU head coach Jim Tressel. Upon doing so, Tressel told Bellamy that a written scholarship offer was in the mail and on its way to his house.

Finally, the offer he had been dreaming of was on its way.

Now, one day later and two days removed from his performance at the camp, Bellamy has informed BuckeyeSports.com that he will be verbal commitment -- No. 17 for OSU's class of 2009.

"I just got off the phone with (OSU head) coach (Jim) Tressel, and I gave him a verbal commitment," Bellamy told BuckeyeSports.com. "He said it's a great day for the Buckeyes, and he's glad to have me on board."

Ranked as the No. 23 offensive guard in the nation by Scout.com, Bellamy has experience on both sides of the ball. At 6-foot-4, 275 pounds, Bellamy is being targeted by the Buckeyes as a run-stopping defensive tackle, who can plug the trenches.
