Joey O’Connor Completes the 2012 Ohio State Offensive Line Class
Ohio State Buckeye recruiting has picked up with the approaching 2012 National Letter of Intent Signing Day right around the corner in early February. Urban Meyer and new offensive line coach Ed Warinner got a commitment from Colorado offensive tackle Joey O’Connor after a weekend visit mid-January. The class now has 23 recruits verbally committed, with some of the best lineman in the country and an overall class ranking 3rd nationally by Rivals.com. Only Alabama and Texas are ranked higher in the latest team class rankings.
At 6’4” 295 lbs. O’Connor is one of the best tackles in the country considered the 12th best. He joins Taylor Decker, Jacoby Boren, and Pat Elflein on the offensive line for the OSU class of 2012. He selected Ohio State because he feels the program offers everything that he is looking for. Receiving an offer on the 15th during a visit to Columbus, O’Connor waited just two days after returning home to call Coach Meyer and commit to the Buckeyes.
O’Connor’s family felt the same way about Ohio State as Joey, so the decision was easy for the dominating tackle. Other schools under consideration included Iowa and California, with Cal losing their top recruiter Tosh Lupoi to Washington days before O’Connor made his decision.
Ohio State is still considering adding a 5th lineman to the class with Wisconsin commit Kyle Dodson and Chicago Simeon Jordan Diamond considering Ohio State going into the final weeks before recruiting ends.
